As a security guy, I take privacy seriously, so I want to be upfront about the data I collect and how I will handle your information. Here’s a quick rundown of what I do and don’t do with your data.
What Data I Collect
Site Visit Data
I’d like to use Google Analytics to see how people interact with my site. This helps me understand what you like and how I can improve things. Google Analytics collects data like which pages you visit and how long you stay, but it doesn’t identify you personally and anonymisation of IP is configured in the script settings.
In line with GDPR, this is opt-in. I’ll display a banner for you to approve or decline this. Until you approve, the Google Tag Manager script will not be active. If you approve this and then change your mind, please just clear your cookies and this will reset back.
Email Addresses
If you decide to sign up for my newsletter, I’ll collect your email address so I can send you updates and cool stuff I think you’ll like. Don’t worry, I won’t spam you or share your email with anyone else.
I use Mailerlite to store email addresses and handle my email services. Their privacy policy can be found here.
How I Use Your Data
Site Visit Data
This data helps me figure out what’s working and what’s not. I use it to make your experience better and to see what kinds of content you’re into. It also gives me a comforting warm feeling that I’m not just talking to myself.
Email Addresses
I use your email address to send you my newsletter. You can always opt out if you change your mind. Just hit the “unsubscribe” link in any of my emails, and I’ll take you off the list.
Your Rights
You have some rights when it comes to your data:
- Access: You can ask me what data I have on you.
- Correction: If something’s not right, let me know and I’ll fix it.
- Deletion: You can request that I delete your data.
- Opt-Out: You can unsubscribe from my newsletter at any time.
Cookies and Third Parties
The third parties I use as part of running my site are as follows:

Both of the services are opt-in. The only cookies you’ll find set on this site are as follows:
- gtag-approval - This is used to determine whether or not Google Analytics can be enabled.
- Various - Mailerlite uses cookies to determine which users have seen forms so they don’t repeatedly get popups - https://www.mailerlite.com/help/which-cookies-are-used-by-mailerlite-forms.
